The effect of group sandplay therapy for children¡¯s anxiety decrease and ego-resilience promotion

Abstract
This study was held to inquire the impact of children¡¯s anxiety reduction and ego-resilience enhancement of Group Sandplay Therapy. The Group Sandplay Therapy was consisted a touching sand, making personal tray and a making tray in group. The constructions of the group were three groups in total; The male and female mixed group with four children, the female(same sex group), the male(same sex group) in fourth grade. To study the anxiety and ego-resilience, used the Revised Children¡¯s Manifest Anxiety Scale(RCMAS) and Korean Personality Rating for Children(KPRC) as a research tool. Analyzed the conditions of transitions by comparing negative and positive themes of sand tray treatment. The result of Group Sandplay Therapy had positive effections of reducing children¡¯s anxiety and improving children ego-resilence. By looking into the differences in the analysis of mixed sex and same sex group during the session, the male and female mixed group indicates more of negative factors than positive factors. They also appeared positive factors constantly, but it has not increased. On the contrary, more negative elements appear on the same sex group at the initial session. However as the session go along, the negative elements reduced and the positive element of the group appears more. When the group consisted with the same gender, children had a higher therapeutic effect.
